About the day

The 2026 LPBD Conference Program was filled with highly acclaimed keynote and invited speakers passionate about their research, profession and improving learning and developmental outcomes for children.

From plenary sessions in the morning to a great afternoon of concurrent sessions and networking breaks throughout, the delegates were able to connect with peers, sponsors and exhibitors and find out all the latest news, research and best practice in children’s learning and development from birth to age 12.

Growing Ideas That Matter: Empowering Voices, Shaping Practice

The 2026 Northern Territory Little People Big Dreams Children’s Learning and Development Conference is held on Saturday 17 October 2026 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Esplanade, Darwin. The Conference provides an opportunity for educators, academics, policy makers and communities to work collaboratively to improve children’s learning and development. With topics focusing on the themes:

  • Embedding Aboriginal Pedagogy in Practice
    Exploring culturally responsive approaches that honour Aboriginal perspectives, knowledge, and ways of learning.

    Investigating play-based learning, its impact on development, and innovative ways to foster meaningful play experiences.

    Supporting diverse ways of thinking and learning through inclusive practices that celebrate every child’s strengths.

    Strengthening leadership in early childhood through vision, collaboration, and sustainable practice.
  • Safety in Every Moment
    Strengthening policies and everyday practices to protect children and build educator confidence in keeping them safe.
