Child Australia is delighted to announce the successful recipients of the inaugural Supporting Children in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) WA Grants Program. Coordinating the grants process on behalf of WA Government, this initiative distributes funds from the Preschool Reform Agreement.

The Preschool Reform Agreement (PRA), a collaborative effort by the Australian Government, states and territories, aims to ensure every child has access to high-quality early education. One of its key pillars is the equitable distribution of funding to various settings, including the ECEC sector, where preschool programs are delivered.

The Grants Program is deeply committed to ensuring universal access to affordable and high-quality preschool programs for all children. It focuses on breaking down barriers and reducing disparities in access to quality preschool education.

In line with the goals of the PRA, the Grants Program prioritises improving preschool participation and outcomes among specific demographics of children. These include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, those residing in regional, remote, and very remote communities, children facing significant disadvantages, children from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds, and those under the care of the CEO, Department of Communities. The program aims to tackle the unique needs and challenges of each group, working towards a more inclusive and equitable preschool experience for all children.

Ms. Tina Holtom, CEO of Child Australia, expressed her enthusiasm for the successful outcomes of this grants program, “We are thrilled to have received such a significant number of high-quality applications for the Supporting Children in ECEC WA Grants Program. The overwhelming response resulted in the program being oversubscribed, with applications totalling approximately $2.4 million. While it was challenging to shortlist and align with the allocated funding of just over $1 million, we understand the significance of the initiatives proposed. We anticipate another funding allocation by mid 2024, providing another opportunity for deserving applicants.”

“We extend our congratulations to the successful organisations and commend their dedication to enhancing experiences for children as they prepare to embark on their school journey.”
