About the series

Join us as we explore the exciting world of loose parts play. This series will introduce educators to the many ways everyday and natural materials can be used to inspire creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking and imagination in children.

Through practical examples and hands-on learning, educators will discover how loose parts encourage open-ended play, support children’s agency and create rich learning opportunities across all areas of development.

Whether using natural resources, recycled materials or everyday objects, loose parts offer endless possibilities for exploration and discovery.

Why This Series Matters

Loose parts play gives Children the freedom to explore, create, and learn in ways that are meaningful to them. Unlike toys with a fixed purpose, loose parts can be moved, combined, redesigned, and used in endless ways, encouraging imagination and creativity.

Through loose parts play, children develop:

  • problem-solving skills
  • critical thinking
  • communication
  • collaboration skills

…as they test ideas and work with others.

It also supports children’s confidence and sense of agency, as they make decisions about their play and learning.

By providing open-ended materials, educators create rich opportunities for discovery, innovation and deeper engagement in the learning environment.
